Our Mission

Our Reason for Establishing Kiel International School

Education and preparation for life is more important than ever. We live in a globalized world, where 21st century skills in people and groups are needed to meet current and future challenges – both globally and locally – and to live a happy and fulfilled life in which we thrive to our fullest potential.

High-Quality International Education

Kiel International School (KIS) will be a bilingual immersive English-German school for children aged ages 3 to 19, located in Kiel, the capital town of Schleswig-Holstein.
Using a programme of high-quality international education and by creating a trusting and safe learning atmosphere, we encourage our students from across the world to become active, optimistic, compassionate and lifelong learners. At KIS we promote a culture of open-mindedness, respect, enthisiastic learning, and cooperation. Students develop adaptable skills to tackle society’s complex challenges and help to create a better and more peaceful world. Our students learn and grow together through intercultural understanding and by discovering and living their talents and passions.

“The world runs on projects. Managing and leading projects are essential life skills, learning skills and career skills.”

P21 – Partnership for 21st Century Learning

Project-Based Learning

KIS seeks to become an IB World School as well as a Schleswig-Holstein state-recognized school, which offers a programme of high quality international education. Our approach to learning is to engage our students in their learning and in designing and building their future through inquiry- and project-based learning

At KIS we encourage student-driven learning. Students develop 21st century competencies such as creativity, collaboration, communication, critical thinking, character, global citizenship as well as e-skills and leadership.

Technology Integration

We live in a rapidly changing society that is globally shaped and characterized by ever-faster innovation cycles. Our students are offered a learning environment which fully integrates technology in order to engage and explore todays potential for lifelong learning. In our technological and media-driven environment with an abundance of information it is important to have the ability to collaborate and to make strong individual contributions.  What are 21st century competencies?

Unique Learners

Our open-minded school culture enables our internationally qualified teachers to be advisors and coaches that facilitate multiple ways of student learning, so students can build new things, new contexts and create meaning in today’s networked world. We see our students, each with unique learning styles, strengths and challenges. We focus on each student as a whole person. Our educational programme not only address cognitive development but also social, emotional and physical well-being.

A Welcoming and Inspiring Learning-Community

Most importantly, our international school community will be a dynamic group of interesting people coming from diverse backgrounds and cultures. Together we create a welcoming and inspiring place for personal and collective learning and growth.

If you are interested in an excellent international education and want to be part of our international community, please get in touch.
